And we were pretty over-the-bloody-moon when Perry and The Last Ghost Train Home was nominated in the Final 10 for the Australian Music Prize (AMP), particularly when there were more than 190 entries. Perry didn't win (it's OK, Mess Hall - we still love you - and congratulations) but it was a major achievement to be nominated in the Final 10.

Pony Up - Montreal rockers get to grips with our Q&A...
Feature article courtesy of subba-cultcha.com
- 26/9/2007

The city of Montreal has spent the past few years earning itself a reputation as a musical hot spot. Having already blessed us with The Arcade Fire, The Unicorns, The Stills and Wolf Parade and generally more bands than you can shake a stick at, its latest offering is Pony Up, an all-girl gang of old friends and two sisters who decided to form a band back on New Year's Eve 2002.

Since then, the girls have been honing their songwriting chops and gigging North America ragged. Having decided that the time was right, the band then headed to the infamous Hotel2Tango studios with producer Ian Bilerman (whose CV boasts the aforementioned Arcade Fire and Wolf Parade) to record their debut album.

A taster of that forthcoming album comes in the form of their debut UK release, the Just In It For The Tail 7", a two track slice of pure pop. Lead track The Truth About Cats And Dogs (Is That They Die) is Pony Up at their jaunty, immediate best. It's full of thumping rhythms, self-assured vocalisms and melodious piano and guitar trimmings. It sure is one for the indie/bedroom disco scene. The track has already attracted plays from Gideon Coe (BBC 6Music) who called it "rather splendid".

B-side, Wet, is a slower affair that builds and breaks like post-rock yet never fails to lose its pop sensibilities. Perhaps we could call it 'post-pop'? It parodies the kind of plodding, jam-heavy rock so favoured by self-serious male musicians, mocking the dynamic that plays out between those boys and their female audience.

How did the recording sessions for the new album go?

We went into the same studio where we'd recorded an earlier EP, but this time we worked with Brian Paulson as well as Howard Bilerman. They were a pleasure. Lindsay and Laura's dad, Richard, also came in to help us out. We wanted to keep it bare bone style, not do anything we couldn't reproduce live. We plan to take a different approach for our next album. We've spent recent months working on new songs and can't wait to record another album. Maybe get some friends to join us... to fill us out like tissue in a bra.

What do you feel are your own limitations when it comes to creating/writing music?

I wish I had more time to experiment with all the different sounds I could get out of my pedals\amps, or out of other pedals. I don't feel I'm very savvy when it comes to gadgets and technicalities. Maybe I'm just lazy...

Tell us 3 of your favourite songs from your career and the inspiration behind them? (to clear up some confusion, these are three of your own/bands songs-not other artists)

Dance for Me has been a band favourite since it was written, it has the sentimental, slow-jam element to please me and Laura (we are the sappier ones), and the dancier chorus to please Lindsay and Lisa (our easily-bored rhythm section).

Wet is a proud moment in any set, because it is always the time we really cut loose and rock out. If we were at all uptight throughout a live show, it all drops away when we play that song.

We have been working on a lot of new material for the next album, so some of those songs are quickly becoming favourites. Bastard Children is a nice, dark mid-tempo song that gives a chance to explore some new sonic possibilities. That one was inspired by memories from my childhood, which is kind of becoming a theme for the new material.

What would you say was the best show you ever played? why?

My favourite would be an outdoor festival we played in Brisbane, Australia. It started pouring and the crowd wasn't dispersing. I also liked the added element of danger. .

What are the bands plans for the rest of the year?

We toured Australia last September and it feels like we've been on the road more than not since then. We've had a quiet summer and are going to kick it off again this fall with a couple of festivals and a European tour!

How would you describe your own/bands sound?

I think someone has already described us as 'your parents' love sounds in the night'. Basically we're a pop/rock band.

Who is currently moving you musically at the moment?

Cocorosie and Del Shannon and Mariah Carey.

What album changed your life and why?

Luscious Jackson's 'Searching For Manny' because they are so true.

A moment in your life and a song that seem so perfectly intertwined in your memory?

I got my first period on a Sunday as I was listening to U2's 'Sunday Bloody Sunday'. No joke.

Your proudest achievement so far?

Still working on it.

If you could erase one single/album from history (your own or someone else's) which would it be and why?

I can't think of any but if I could it would be so I could re-record it and pass it off as my own. Maybe Neutral Milk Hotel's 'In The Aeroplane Over The Sea' or Tapes 'n Tapes 'The Loon'.

How do you see yourself altering the band and your sound in the future? is there anything you wish to attempt in the future that's inspiring you right now?

We might play musical chairs with our instruments. One might say musical, um, instruments. I'm inspired by this car commercial where the cars are playing 'musical chairs' in the parking lot. it's pretty funny.

A rumour you'd like to start about yourself, or one you'd like stopped?

I would like to stop the rumour that we are all teenagers. I am sick of telling people how old we are and getting a look of shock. We are old okay! Get over it! Maybe it's cuz we drink a lot of water.

What drives you?

Thinking five years ahead.

What are your fears?

It used to be aliens and ghosts. the paranormal, but nothing can get me when I don't believe in anything.

The revolution comes, who would you like to be first against the wall (and if you're feeling particularly bitchy, a second, third, fourth and so on...)?

Naww.

Best piece of advice you'd give to aspiring musicians, or the best piece of advice you were given when you started?

Do what you love and don't pay attention to criticism you get as a result. Someone's problem with you is really with themselves. Don't look for a manager. When you are meant to stop learning for yourself, the universe will provide.

If you're in a car going at the speed of light, and someone turns the headlamps on, would they do anything?

Depends where I'm looking.

TOP 5 IPOD TUNES

1. Umbrella, Rihanna, because when the sun shines we shine together.

2. Shake It Off, Mariah Carey, cuz my loving ain't the same and you keep on playing games like you know I'm here to stay.

3. Spirit In The Sky, Norman Greenbaum, that's where I'm going to go when I die

4. I Put A Spell On You, Nina Simone, cuz you're mine

5. White and Nerdy, Weird Al Yankovic,

The Truth About Cats And Dogs (Is That They Die) is taken from their forthcoming album, the excellently-named, Make Love To The Judges With Your Eyes, which is released in the UK in September 2007. They will be touring the UK in October and November. To book shows, email edstringfellow@theagencygroup.com.

This Ain't Radio Nowhere - This Is Radio National - 16/9/2007

The Californication Of Perry Keyes - 16/9/2007

Laughing Outlaw is very excited that In Ancient Rome, a song from the new Perry Keyes album, The Last Ghost Train Home, will be featured in an October episode of the new television series Californication. The song was placed by Los Angeles-based Charles Levan and his company Blue Buddha which specialises in music placement in film and television. Charles Levan heard about Laughing Outlaw and its artists through the 2007 South By Southwest conference in Austin, Texas and Blue Buddha now represents many of the label's artists and songwriters in North America.

Laughing Outlaw Signs Los Angeles-Based Cambodian Pop Band Dengue Fever - 16/9/2007

We are mighty excited to announce the signing of Los Angeles, California based Cambodian pop band Dengue Fever (www.denguefevermusic.com) and the September 29 release of their album Escape From Dragon House.

After a tip off from a friend, Laughing Outlaw's director Stuart Coupe and label manager Julia Thomas met with the members of Dengue Fever and their management in Los Angeles early in March 2007. All parties reconvened soon after in Austin, Texas for the SXSW music festival and, after seeing the band's astonishing live performances the Laughing Outlaw's realised they didn't just want to be involved with Dengue Fever - they needed to be involved. Dengue Fever will be touring Australia early in 2008.

Dengue Fever is in the vanguard of an emerging global pop sensibility, making music that's both familiar, yet eerily unique. Fronted by Cambodian pop star Ch'hom Nimol. who sings in Khmer, the Los Angeles sextet blends the rhythms of '60s Cambodian pop - heavily influenced by American surf, rock and early psychedelic garage bands - with their own eclectic mix of American and international styles.

Unlike the world music bands of the late '80s, Dengue Fever is more concerned with a universal groove and breaking down musical barriers than with notions of authenticity. There are echoes of Bollywood soundtracks, Ethiopian soul, American R&B, Cambodian folk, Spaghetti Western weirdness and girl group angst in the mix, but the resulting concoction is all their own.

The Los Angeles Times describes the band as, ""If you can imagine a band where a Cambodian beauty queen shares the stage with Rasputin, Barry White, Allen Ginsberg, Michael Hutchence, and Brian Wilson, you'd have a pretty good idea of the group Dengue Fever."

Escape From Dragon House was given a 4/5 star rating by Mojo magazine and described as "a nugget of Cambodian-Californian psychedelia." It was also named #1 International release by Internet retail giant Amazon.com and was named to Mojo's Top 5 international of the year.

Quick update from Laughing Outlaw Headquarters - 11/5/2007

Perry Keyes appeared last Friday night (26 Nov) on Stateline on ABC TV and Keyes will be teaming up with Whitlams front man Tim Freedman to tour Victoria in late November. In the mean time Perry Keyes will be playing with Tim Freedman for his solo shows at the Basement on Thu 20 and Fri 21 December along with Bernie Hayes. Hayes and Keyes are both sporting critically acclaimed new albums.

Perry and Bernie will both play their own sets, and the special part of the evening will be when they join Tim on stage at the end of the night and sing a few of each others songs in an orgy of inner-western 40-something pop classicism. This a unique collaboration not to be missed.

Bek-Jean Stewart's new album Junior Years is the Radio National 'Album of the Week' and will be available in stores on Saturday Nov 3. It is currently available right now through the Laughing Outlaw Web Store.

Pony Up are currently half way through their UK/Europe tour and are having a great time.

REVIEW - The Redlands Palomino Co. - Take Me Home - 3/4/2007

Seriously good second from London quintet...

This lot are the best British countrypolitans since The Rockingbirds, so it's apt that the latter's Chris Clarke co-produces their latest. In habiting a world where The Jayhawks' Hollywood Town Hall and the Burritos' Gilded Palace Of Sin are sacred texts, the melodies of spouses Hannah and Alex Elton-Wall are exceptional. As is Hannah's sorrowful voice, be it cresting over a soft bank of strings on "Take Me Home" or tugging at the heart over the weepy steel of "Burning it Down". Alex is gruffer - like a sawn-off Jeff Tweedy - making a killer concoction.

The Redlands Palomino Company second album - 25/1/2007

The Redlands Palomino Company announce February 12th to release their much anticipated second album "Take Me Home" and a full UK tour to coincide with the release. Hailed by The Guardian as 'alt-country heroes' and by Americana-uk.com as 'Britain's finest country rockers' Redlands Palomino Company are sure to impress with their second release 'Take Me Home'.

'“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is an adage that The Redlands Palomino Company have clearly taken to heart...The UK’s best country-rockers have
largely remained true to their tried and trusted template on their second full-length release' - Americana-uk.com

Always true to their own musical vision, yet without denying their influences, the sheer accessibility of the songs and impressive strength of musicianship on ‘Take Me Home’ makes this the album that will surely bring them the wider success they deserve.

The past couple of years have seen The Redlands Palomino Company relentlessly honing their stagecraft by gigging extensively with transatlantic peers such as Richmond Fontaine, The Sadies, Gina Villalobos (who guests on ‘Take Me Home’), Tift Merritt, The Deadstring Brothers and many others. Undeniable evidence of this can be witnessed during February and March when the band head out on a UK tour to promote ‘Take Me Home’.

The Chrismukkah Show - 15/12/2006

The Chrismukkah Show
Friday 22nd December 2006
Sandringham Hotel, Newtown $8

Sam Shinazzi
Charge Group
Captain Nemo

In the spirit of Chrismukkah where people forget their differences and enjoy the act of giving, three Sydney acts will come together on Friday 22nd December to share the stage for the very first time.

Sam Shinazzi has spent the latter half of 2006 recording his third album, the follow up to the well received 'Stories You Wouldn't Believe'. It should see the light of day in the first quarter of the new year. Sam and his band featuring T-Bone Taylor, Tessa Benjamin, Bruno Brayovic (Peabody) and Anthony The (Skull Squadron) will be playing a bunch of newbies as well as the back catalogue.

Charge Group feature some of Sydney's most unique players in Matt Blackman (ex-Purplene), Jason Tampake (who has worked with Firekites and Josh Pyke), Adam Jesson (The Instant) and drummer Bree van Reyk (plays w/Darren Hanlon/Holly Throsby). Combine these talents together and you have Charge Group, a part vocal-driven, part instrumental melodic wonder. Expect their debut album early 2007.

Captain Nemo feature members of Further and important bands of Sydney's past in Tweezer and Ukiyo-e. Think Dinosaur Jr meets Bonnie Prince Billy.

Sam Shinazzi at the Annandale - 2/12/2006

Sam Shinazzi is jumping like a kindy kid on their first day of school at the news he'll be joining one of his favourite bands Richmond Fontaine, alongside Sydney indie legends Bluebottle Kiss, at The Annandale. This is the first taste of new material from Bluebottle Kiss, as well as Richmond Fontaine's first Australian visit. Couple this with a rare full band show from Sam Shinazzi and you have yourself a night on the town!

FRIDAY 24TH FEBRUARY
Bluebottle Kiss (single launch)
Richmond Fontaine (usa)
Sam Shinazzi (full band line up)

Veteran Sydney mood rockers Bluebottle Kiss will be launching the first single from their forthcoming sixth album 'Doubt Seeds'. The double album is set to make BBK even more legendary amongst their fans and no doubt turn a few new heads along the way. The band, led by Jamie Hutchings, will be showcasing new material as well as familiar older live favourites.

Richmond Fontaine are an amazing alt-country band from
Portland Oregon. Led by singer-songwriter Willy
Vlautin, the four piece first found fame via the UK
and Europe with their fifth album 'Post To Wire'. This
success seeped through to their homeland and as far as Australia. Their latest album 'The Fitzgerald' is a masterpiece. Willy Vlautin will also have his debut
book 'Motel Life' published worldwide midway through 2006.

Sam Shinazzi's rad. We don't need to tell you more about him. Although, maybe we should tell you, if you've ever wanted to be a rock star, Sam has some pretty detailed tour diaries up on his site. Take them as a template for the rock life you should be leading.

Laughing Outlaw Opens & Closes SXSW - Gina Villalobos & Len Price 3 play to critical acclaim. - 30/3/2006

It's a week since Austin, Texas' biggest music festival, South By South West wrapped up, and at
Laughing Outlaw we're only just beginning to remember our names again. 5 days, 1300 bands and no sleep can have that effect on you!

Gina Villalobos opened the festival with an amazing performance on the opening night, previewing material from her upcoming, highly anticipated follow up to "Rock N Roll Pony". With a new three piece line up, Europe is in for some breathtaking shows on her upcoming tour.

The Len Price 3 began their US assault with a blistering show in New York, with the audience including Little Steven, who just this week has named "Chinese Burn" in his Top 5 coolest Garage Songs. Before even getting to Austin, LP3 had a lot to live up to, with Rolling Stone's David Fricke naming them in his three must see SXSW bands. And live up to it they did, with the whole crowd dancing along. Fricke was impressed too, naming them in his SXSW highlights. With a new album in the bag, The Len Price 3 continue to go from strength to strength.

And at Laughing Outlaw, there's no rest for the wicked. We're frantically at work, preparing Ronnie
Spector's new record for release in Australia & New Zealand in a fortnight. Her first full length
in almost 20 years, and featuring Keith Richards, Patti Smith, Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), The
Raveonettes & The Greenhornes, to say this is an amazing record would be the understatement of the
year. Hear Ronnie talking to Richard Kingsmill this Sunday, or read an interview in the Saturday's
Sydney Morning Herald.

Keep your ears open too for new music from George Byrne and Starky. And your eyes peeled for Sam
Shinazzi's brand new video clip. Okay, I need to take a breath. Have a great day kids!

The Band performed their final concert on Thanksgiving, 29 years ago-it was recorded and released as The Last Waltz and filmed by Martin Scorsese. This legendary documentary is known as “the greatest concert film ever made”.

The Band was arguably the greatest ensemble in the history of rock. Their music mixed Rock, Blues, Folk, Jazz and R&B into a mélange previously unheard. BACK IN THE STUDIO AND ON THE ROAD - 29/9/2005

We could make jokes about no rest for the wicked, but quite frankly we're way too busy listening to the sounds coming out of Gina Villalobos' new recording sessions. It's sounding fantastic and it's looking like a new album could be on the way early next year. But that's enough teasing, because next year's still months away. If you want to see the new stuff live before then, the UK's the place to be. Check out the gig guide for all the details. Wish I was there!
For now, here's a studio snap of Gina and her drummer "hard at work!" Click the image to enlarge.

More News Than A Saturday Paper - 25/8/2005

What a week at Laughing Outlaw! And like any good week should, it all began on Friday night. For news from last weeks shows, plus exciting international support slots and great radio play, read on...

Like I said, it all began on Friday night. Thanks to Wallspace, Jason Walker & The Last
Drinks and Perry Keyes & Give My Love To Rose for a fantastic night at the Petersham Bowling Club. Highlights included Tim Freedman asking
people to quieten down so he could hear Perry better and the slightly disappointing fact that Jason's head is actually healing incredibly
well. There's not even a pirate scar! But there was great music and massive thanks to everyone who came and made it such a fun night.

In other exciting live news, Laughing Outlaw's very own Sam Shinazzi has been asked to support The Mountain Goats in Sydney. Wednesday
September 14th at @Newtown. Also playing are the magnificent Tucker B's. Join us front row, beer in hand!

If sitting at home, listening to the radio is more your thing, make sure it's tuned to Triple J and more than likely you'll hear
Wallspace's debut single "How's Your Love Life." You may have caught it last week when it was Richard Kingsmill's "King's Pick" on Home &
Hosed, or again on Sunday night on his 2005 show, but now stay tuned to catch it right across the day! Massive thanks to FBi as well for all their support. Their debut album "Nightweather" will be out soon, but until then, check them out live, they may even venture out of Sydney some time soon. You just never know...

Starky's Welsh Country Manor - 28/6/2005

Starky are on an album making adventure! In Wales! In a village called Cardigan! Okay, enough exclamation marks. The lucky buggers are bunkered down in a Welsh Country Manor making the follow up to "Mirror, Signal, Maneouvre," and just to make my day in rainy Sydney even better, they've sent home happy snaps. Hope they make you as jealous as I am!

Looking carefully in the gallery you may even find some more USA tour photos as promised a little while back."

Anyone got an extra brain for me? - 5/5/2005

So much going here at the moment I’ve hardly got time to write an update! As busy as I am? Here’s the quick version, David McCormack & The Polaroids have a fantastic new single, Halfway has a tour bus, Gina Villalobos has a flight booked, Andy White’s joining her and The Go Set need a bed. And quite possibly a couple of liver transplants.

Firstly, turn on your radios, David McCormack & The Polaroids proudly present to you the third single from their successful beyond their wildest dreams album “The Truth About Love.” It’s called “Who Can It Be?” and it’s about girls and telephones. Which just shows how much Mr McCormack’s grown up from 1999, when he wrote songs about monkeys and telephones instead. The point is it’s lovely and you should listen out for it. On Triple J and FBi and other fine radio stations across this big, brown land. Or buy the album, then you can listen as often as you like, with 13 other Dave tracks sandwiching it.

If you’re anywhere between Brisbane and Sydney, hurry up and get where you’re going then stay off the roads for until June. In fact pull over right now just to be safe. After wowing northern audiences with fantastic shows alongside the likes of Gomez and The Black Keys, it’s time to come down, find out what Winter’s all about and give Sydney their first taste of Halfway live. And in true Halfway style, they’ll be bringing the entire seven piece band. Seven! That’s more mouths to feed than the Spice Girls had, and everyone knows country muso’s eat much more than pop stars, so make sure you come down and see them. All I’ll say is that the fun’s all happening on the last weekend of May, check the tour pages for more info!

And Gina Villalobos. I promised and I promised and I promised. And now, finally it’s happening. There’s dates from Sydney to Melbourne to Adelaide to Brisbane with plenty of stops along the way (You don’t think she’s coming all the way to Australia and I wouldn’t show her the Big Merino do you?). Check the Tour Page, you know the drill, and don’t worry if your town’s missing, there’s still a few to be added.

And, if Gina Villalobos wasn’t enough for you, she’ll be joined at select dates by Andy White, launching his new compilation “Rare.” Between Gina speaking all cute and Californian, and Andy lilting all Irishly, it’s all I’ll be able to do, to stop listening to their accents and concentrate on where the next show is.

And just quickly, I’d like to take my hat off to the boys who never seem to stop touring, those lovely lads in The Go Set. Their shows are going fantastically and the crowd at the show I stopped by at seemed to be having a wonderful time. But I still don’t know how they do it. Unless they live in some parallel universe with 33 hours in the day. So until I figure it out, I salute their rockness. And you should go see them, there’s not many dates left on this tour, and if you can’t help them sleep more, you can at least help them destroy their liver.

XX Your laughing outlaws.

The Coolest place to be! - 30/4/2005

aww, all the cool stuff happens in the UK! Not only has Gina Villalobos landed safely back in the country, but The Len Price 3 have gone multimedia mad! Now there's no escaping em, no matter how you listen to music!

If you like radio, make sure you tune into Radio 2 at 10pm, Monday 30th May to hear a very special live session from the boys.

If you like vinyl, there's a limited edition 7" version of "Christian In The Desert." Released May 2nd, grab it at all their shows, or your favourite record stores.

If you prefer CDs, so small and shiny, hang out till May 30th, and grab yourself a copy of the entire album, "Chinese Burn."

And if you like your music all high tech, new fangled and internet like, you'll be able to listen live to their May 30th Live Session at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/ That's 10pm UK, 7am Sydney, 11pm Belgrade. So no excuses!

David McCormack hits #4 on the Mojo Playlist - 8/3/2005

David McCormack's 'I'm Goin To Execute Yr Ex-Boyfriend', from his recent album 'The Truth About Love', hits # 4 on Mojo's Top 10 / The Mojo Playlist. According to Mojo, Dave McCormack's track is "Utter, over-the-top possessiveness in weirdo Aussie-style. Too much Foster's lyrically but the pure Hammond heat of the backdrop takes this into must-hear territory." Click here to see the Dave McCormack in the Mojo Top 10.

There must be something in the air... - 28/2/2005

the kinda thing that keeps us from updating our website and keeps our artists with their bags packed and their passports updated.

Gina Villalobos has just landed in the UK for her first visit. And how is she welcomed? With a freak snow storm! What a way to greet a guest! Especially when she comes bearing gifts as amazing as her new record!

Starky are starting to lay their rock star clothes out on the beds too, packing and repacking for SXSW. As well as Austin, Texas, they'll be stopping by the decidedly un-snowy LA, and the possibly more snowy New York. Watch for dates, and remember they're only lonely rock boys, come down and say hi!

Not to be outdone of course, Mr David McCormack has rounded up his Polaroids and is making the long and difficult journey from Kings Cross to Surry Hills. He'll be at the Hopetoun Hotel Friday March 4th. Go heckle. And while you''re out that night, skip down the road to catch Jason Walker and The Last Drinks support the fantastic Lambchop at Sydney's Gaelic Club!

See you out there!

Jason Walker in bar fight with himself! He loses! - 8/1/2005

Those punters who were lucky enough to be at the Annandale Hotel last night were treated to a fine night of Laughing outlaw live talent, including Perry Keyes, Mary Wyer (Her Name In Lights), Sam Shinazzi, Wallspace and the rockin' Jason Walker and the Last Drinks. The night culminated in a spirited renditon of 'Dissatisfaction' by the Last Drinks, at the end of which Jason Walker (we believe accidentally) attacked himself with a beer glass. This resulted in seven stitches and some wonderful photographs (click the thumbnail for a larger sample). Jason is reported to be recovering nicely and has has sworn not to pick on himself in future.

The Len Price 3 sign with Laughing Outlaw! - 28/9/2004

Laughing Outlaw is pleased to announce the international signing of ace garage rockers The Len Price 3. This dirty garage rock trio hail from the Medway Delta in sunny England (home to Billy Childish) and their sound is forged in the Medway tradition, fusing driving energy, catchy hooks and a raw 60's garage sound (think early Who, Barracudas, even a smidgeon of the ‘Shake Some Action’ era Flamin’ Groovies). The band’s soon to be completed first album, recorded at Ranscombe Studios, will be released in the UK, Europe, Australia and the US throughout 2005. The band will also be gigging tirelessly around the Medway region and London throughout the English Autumn.

First Show for Last Drinks - 9/5/2004

Jason Walker and The Last Drinks will perform their first show after returning from their highly successful visit to SXSW in Austin Texas. As part of the Australian push at the world famous music festival and conference, they were one of only a handful of local bands, including Powderfinger and the Church, who were invited to showcase.

"Austin is completely unbelievable - it's a music lover's dream town," says Walker, fresh off the plane and reeling from the effects of airline gin and the last show of the convention, Los Lobos' amazing two-hour set. "I spotted Kris Kristofferson in the lobby of the Driskill Hotel downtown, saw Dave Alvin play - he's one of my all-time favourites, saw Mark Eitzel from American Music Club walking along the street. When it was our turn to play, we got a great response there from the [SXSW venue] Momo's crowd, and even though I'm unspeakably hungover and jaded by long-distance flying, I'm still excited about it. I think we might be playing loud and funky to try and conjure up a little of that spirit in our first show back."

Walker has plans for further touring with The Last Drinks overseas in 2004 on the strength of some fine reviews he has received for Ashes & Wine (Laughing Outlaw Records) in prestigious publications, UNCUT and Mojo, as well as magazines as far afield as the former Yugoslavia, Italy, Germany, Belgium and Norway. "All these positive vibrations are very encouraging," says Walker. "We've got plans to do a lot more shows in Australia this year too. It's nice to think our fellow countryfolk are actually keen to see us play."

It will be a big night of live music at the Vic on the Park on Thursday 13 May, with four bands, including the fabulous The Rainbows, the fantastic Adelines and everyone¹s favourites The Reservations. Jason Walker and The Last Drinks will headline this great line up, which will be a night of passion and promise delivered in that special Walker way.
