Grün is a Sydney, Australia-based musical project producing highly emotive, soundtrack-like post-rock music. Previously known as Greenland (changed in 2010 due to clashes with other band names overseas), the band draws it’s influences from a wide variety of artists and composers such as Radiohead, Phillip Glass, Tool, Mogwai, Pink Floyd, Michael Nyman, The Cure and Isis.

Currently, the band comprises two members, Andre Matkovic and Leon Kelly. Previously they worked together as part of leading Sydney rock band Iliad before starting Grün in 2005 with previous drummer Liam Weston. The band is currently working with acclaimed drummer Jon ‘Howler’ Howell, who’s work with Chase the Sun, Leonardo’s Bride and various session work has made him a highly respe cted and in-demand musician.

Andre Matkovic plays bass, trumpet & keyboards. He is a well-established session musician who plays guitar, bass, keys and even drums for bands and singers in Sydney. Andre also composes music for short films & theatre, and with Leon recently made the finals of the Tropscore 2010 competition in Australia.

Leon Kelly plays guitar, sitar & keyboards. Having played guitar all of his life, he studied music theory at the Conservatorium of Sydney and has won awards and been nominated for his score for short films “Boy” and “Ruby Slippers”, along with commissioned work for theatre and other films.

Grün have played live all over the east coast of Australia, and after an extended break to finish their debut album in late 2009, have started playing live again as a 4-piece with live vocals from Katy Wren McNamara.

In 2009 the band finalised the recording of their debut album entitled ‘Greenland’ which will be released in Australia by Laughing Outlaw Records in late 2010. It was produced by the band, mixed by Beau Sherrard and mastered by William Bowden.

The album is predominantly instrumental, but features three tracks sung by Katy Wren McNamara. The band is currently seeking international licensing and publishing arrangements with Japan, UK, Europe and the US.
