True storytellers are few and far between at the moment - Perry Keyes is one of them. Whether you view him as representative of a lost age, best typified by artists like Tom Petty and the recently resurrected Bruce Springsteen, Keyes stories like those of Warren Zevon are slightly skewed. “Last night Dale Buggins came to me in a dream, said he jumped a lake of fire”, “Small boys flying off tin shed roofs” and song titles like ‘The Day John Sattler Broke His Jaw’. Resolutely tied to his Sydney upbringing these are songs of ‘utes’ and Speedway outings imbued with a child’s sense of wonder about wrestlers and kisses at Luna Park.
